Out of the Silence...Into the Silence is a book of daily prayer throughout the year. To complement the book each day’s material has been arranged here so that everything you need for that day is on one ‘scroll’.
There are some extra features not available in the book: the suggested reading from the Gospels, from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible, is given in full, and the day’s ‘cairn for the journey’ from the book Waymarks is included as an additional short reading; also, if you click on the music for the psalm refrains, you can hear the melody – provided your computer has a sound card and speakers, of course. There is a forum for you to let me know of any errors that have crept in – almost inevitable in a project of this complexity. When I’ve checked them, I will add them to the errata section of the forum.
You may like to consider joining the Company of a Hundred – those who are committing themselves to frequent, if possible daily, use. If you decide to join, click the relevant box for further details. There is a dedicated page accessible only by your chosen password and this lists the members so that they can be in touch directly with one another if they wish.
To gain access to all this material you will need to go to the subscription page. You will find two levels of subscription: please choose the one that best suits your needs. Payment is made electronically, by PayPal, which Phil Gardner, my ‘web shepherd of all these cyber-sheep’, assures me is a secure system. But do let me know if this is a problem for you and we’ll find a way round it.
Downloadable books and resources
Over the next two or three years, it is my intention, little by little, to make some of the books I’ve published over the past twenty-five years available for downloading as PDF documents. As a start Prayer at Night’s Approaching and Brainsquall can be downloaded now. You can purchase these for substantially less than the retail price of the books. And you can do this without taking out a subscription – though if you do subscribe, you’ll get a further discount.
Also available for download as PDF documents are collections of liturgical resources for Sunday worship. These include collects, and versions of the Sunday psalms in the three-year lectionary now in use in most churches, as well as an introductory line in the announcing of the Gospel reading. Canticles from the book Out of the Silence … Into the Silence are provided, and, for some Sundays, further prayers. There is also special material for days such as Christmas Day, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
My thanks are due to Phil Gardner (of Asgard Publishing Services, Leeds) for his reliable and detailed work on the website. He’s even getting somewhere in teaching me how to drive it, though I’m heartily glad he knows what he’s doing under the bonnet. I recommend him to you if you are thinking of venturing into website territory.
